Salvage and Removal Services

Salvage Services

Whether you are a homeowner, contractor, designer, or architect, NBSN member businesses may be able to provide you with the services you need to make reuse possible on your jobsite. These services include material sales, in-store material drop off, on-site material pick-up, on-site material salvage/removal, jobsite previews/bids, and compensation.

Material Sales

All of the NBSN members have stores that are open to the public 7 days a week. Their large and ever-changing inventory can help provide materials for just about any project - from vintage through contemporary. In addition to providing you with affordable materials, these stores often stock unique or historical pieces that can become design centerpieces.

If you are looking for specific sizes or styles, it is important to make a list of dimensions and requirements, so that staff at the salvage yards can better help you find the materials you need.

In-store Material Drop off

Do you have materials that have been removed from your home or from a jobsite? With smaller loads, it's always best if you can bring the material to one of the stores. Each of the businesses has a receiving area for material inspection and drop-offs.

NBSN member businesses try their best to divert as much material as possible. However, it is important to remember that not all materials do well in the reuse market-- make sure to visit our Materials Acceptance page on this website, to ensure that the material you have will be acceptable.

On-site Material Pick-up

Has reusable material already been removed from your jobsite? NSBN members have trucks on the road most days to do material pick-ups from customers' homes, businesses, and jobsites. There is no charge for these services, although it may not be possible to pick up material that is marginal or too far away.

On-site Material Removal

In addition to on-site pick-up, NBSN members do strip-out reusable materials from jobsites. Strip-outs are usually limited to medium through large projects. Make sure to call ahead of time, since the businesses may need up to a 2-3 weeks to schedule projects.

Most strip-outs remove only surface materials (such as cabinets, doors, and windows) and do not completely dismantle a structure. Deconstruction is labor-intensive and currently performed in limited quantity in this area.

Jobsite Preview/Bids

If the project is large or the customer requests a bid, NBSN members will send a staff member to preview the jobsite, before material pick-up or strip-out takes place. This walk-through helps to identify the reusability and value of materials.

Compensation

Salvage is a great way to save money on your jobsite, either through direct compensation, through reduced waste disposal fees or tax-deductible donation options. Each of the NBSN member businesses acquire and compensate for material differently, so it is important that you communicate your interests ahead of time.

Since the sale of the building materials enables the NBSN member businesses to cover their operation costs, it is not possible to provide compensation for all materials. Cash payment or payment through in-store credit depends entirely on the quality and marketability of the material. The more labor involved in acquiring or removing the material, the lower the payment will be for material. In the case of high-quality items, consignment may be an option.
